This year will be the 3rd Annual National Goat Expo. This year’s NGE will take place September 25-29, 2014 at the McLean County Fairgrounds in Bloomington, Illinois.
The first year was a huge success with 400-450 goats in attendance in 2012 with about 600-800 people in attendance with their goats or for seminars. In 2013, this number increased to a total of 825 goats in attendance for show and exhibit, people in numbers for the 5 days increased to 2500+ attending seminars and shows, showing goats or being vendors. The organizers are excited to announce they have increased attendance again, and the number of goats showing at NGE. Boer goats were the highest in number with 162 goats.
TThis year they have also increased the number of shows and added 2 new breeds for shows at the NGE. ADGA shows increased from 4 to 6 shows, 2-4 of them being dual sanctioned with AGS. MGR went up to 3 shows, MDGA/TMGR will have 2 dual sanctioned shows, MSFGA will have 4 shows, ABGA will have 3 shows, they have added the Kinder breed to the NGE and they will be having 3 shows, we have also added the Nigora breed to the NGE and they will be having 1-2 shows this year. The Pygmy shows increased to 3 shows as well for NPGA. These shows will begin on Thursday September 25, 2014 and continue through Sunday September 28, 2014.
We will still be having seminars at the NGE, which will take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Featured speakers include: Dr. Fred Homeyer, Deborah Niemann-Boehle. A few others will also speak on topics relative to the goat industry. We will also be having an AI clinic and a Buck collection at the NGE given and being done by David and Brittany Carwell of B & D Livestock. There will also be 2 fitting clinics done by Crede Garriott; 1 on a boer wether and 1 on a boer doe.
