For decades, the Australian goat industries have avoided using pig wire fencing for fencing grazing lands. Fences with closer wire spacing than pig wire are more expensive and regarded as uneconomic. The preference is for spacings of the vertical wires at 30 cm. Some of these fences and wire netting fences were evaluated in the following report.

Electric fencing is the preferred effective system for controlling pastoral goats but must have initially trained goats and constant high voltage that means a suitable power unit, correct fence installation with a grounded earth return wire, and regular monitoring for vegetation and other interference. The occasional fence-breaker should be culled. Electrified netting can kill kids.
