Dr. Carlos Gutiérrez Cabrera passed away Friday 8 March 2019 in a tragic car accident. Dr. Gutiérrez was born in the Canary Islands (Spain) in 1960. He studied Veterinary Science in the Cordoba Veterinary Faculty in Spain, and in 1989 joined to Academic Faculty staff in the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Veterinary Faculty as Assistant Professor in Large Animals Medicine area. Dr. Gutiérrez earned his Associate Professor position in 1998. In 2015, he received a Full Professor position. As a Professor, Dr. Gutiérrez was devoted to his students, always available to solve any query from his pupils. Dr. Gutiérrez research was focussed in large animal diseases mainly trypanosomiasis. He was an expert in Camel medicine. As a human being, Carlos always held a smile in his face. His attitude in live was always positive and he was available when you need him. I will miss you.

Having learned of the passing of Professor Dr. Carlos Gutiérrez we, on behalf of the members of the International Goat Association (IGA) and our Board of Directors, wish to express our sympathy and our deep regrets for the death of someone who has collaborated effectively with the International Goat Association in the organization of the XI International Conference on Goats that took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in September 2012. We also support any initiative leading to the recognition of Professor Dr. Carlos Gutiérrez’s achievements by any institution with the competence to do so.
